Created: Monday, May 19, 2014

On Sun. May 18, FPCN celebrated its inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places, the official list of the nation's historic places worthy of preservation. After the morning worship service, FPCN Historical Chair Marjorie Melikian, joined by local politicians and representatives from nonprofits, unveiled the plaque in front of our sanctuary officially designating our church as part of the registry.

Barbara Jackson from the office of U.S. Rep. Joe Crowley, Ann Friedman of the Landmarks Conservancy, and New York State Sen. Toby Stavisky were among the local figures attending the unveiling.

The unveiling was the culmination of FPCN's participation in Sacred Sites Open House weekend, an annual event run by the New York Landmarks Conservancy. During the open house, FPCN conducted historical walking tours of the building and the neighborhood.

Authorized by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, the National Park Service's National Register of Historic Places is part of a national program to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect America's historic and archeological resources.
