Pastor's Message (September 2015)

Created: Tuesday, September 1, 2015

Welcome September! In this moment of time, I reflect upon the summer with all the events taking place in the life of our church. Weʼve had visitors from near and far, welcoming the opportunity to connect and re-connect with neighbors in the community and beyond. A local food pantry, senior center, and a family homeless shelter, have all become part of our weekly and monthly outreach ministry.

All of the above has been a most rewarding experience; seeing first hand what God is doing in the community, bringing about ecumenical work among churches. While together, and with joint efforts, we can bring about positive changes within the lives of the needy.

In light of the above conversation, an opportunity which presented itself came through networking with the Interfaith Assembly on Homelessness & Housing, an organization with whom I became acquainted in the spring and offered my time as a volunteer. I am excited to be among other faith leaders, who shares the same prayerful hope of making affordable housing everyone's right as oppose to privilege. Positive changes are already in effect where participants can help bring about change in their lives, by the guidance, inspiration, and motivation of a personal mentor. Being a personal mentor is something I am thoroughly looking forward to this fall. Another opportunity to broaden my network of new friends!

As school begins anew, our son will have the opportunity to broaden his own network of friends. In preparation for a new school year, the students in his school were all given a summer assignment. The assignment consisted of resolving weekly math problems in conjunction with an on-line tutoring academic system, where the teacher oversees the students individual efforts and progress.

Furthermore, besides a science project, there were also two reading assignments. I am pleased and proud to report that our seventh grade student, has been most devoted to the task, and spent adequate time, this, while at the same time daily mending his vegetable and flower beds in the garden. The latter we invite you to come and see, though the front entrance of the manse looks ever so inviting with two-foot tree shrubs on top of the stairs below a miniature white picketed fence with iron-made borders. Inside features a rock formation separating tree different kinds of cactus plants on both sides as well as 2 kinds of perennial flowers. Voila!

Wishing you and yours a wonderful September!

In Christ,
Pastor Anette
