Pastor's Message (October 2015)

Created: Thursday, October 1, 2015

Warm greetings for October!

With the season of fall officially here, our calendars may be up running different activities and scheduled events this time of the year. For the church, it is an ever-so exciting time of preparation and anticipation. As far as the liturgical movement, especially in terms of colors and their meanings, no other season has more changes this time in our church calendar year.

Liturgical colors have all different meanings, many with extensions. The colors, furthermore, do play a crucial part of our worship considering its rich history of symbolism, hence becoming a focal point of testimony. The colors, with all its particular symbolic meanings, give us the opportunity to live out, i.e., practice our faith now and beyond.  Living our lives as such, we allow the Spirit to direct, thus becoming coherent as we respond to God’s living and steadfast Word.

With the most anticipated time of the year, I couldn’t be more excited as my family and I will have the blessing to see another chapter being written in the history books! Besides our Homecoming celebration, another highlight is the dedication of the Jonathan Fish Memorial stone, two of many upcoming events this season. Here is where I like to take the opportunity to thank our church historian Marjorie Melikian for her diligent and faithful work help bringing the memorial stone home to our church and the preparation of a most detailed press release. Special thanks also to our church custodian Richard Cruz, for his help with restoring the memorial stone (which was severely damaged in the shipping and handling process), and to our Session for their heartfelt support.

Besides the above forthcoming celebrations, we will also have the opportunity to explore a variety of ethnic food and culture at our annual International Dinner on October 17 - a time to celebrate and enjoy an international evening at its best, with traditions from all of the world’s continents and beyond! Needless to say perhaps, but come hungry and leave happy!

May the warmth of God’s love enlighten your faith anew this fall!

In Christ,
Pastor Anette
