FPCN is a vibrant center of social and spiritual activity in Elmhurst.
Our Sunday worship services at 10:45 AM are a wonderful way for people to celebrate the love of Jesus Christ
together. We celebrate the sacrament of Holy Communion on the first Sunday of
each month except August. During July and August, Sunday worship takes place at
10:00 AM.
Throughout the year, we have special services or Bible studies to commemorate
special days on the Christian calendar.
In addition to our worship services, we have other opportunities for Christian
education and fellowship. Our Youth Group meets on the first and third Sundays of each month. Our Bible Study, led by
James Edelli, meets every Saturday from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM in the Church House
(entrance on Seabury St. behind sanctuary). We also have Wednesday night Bible studies
from 7:30 to 9:00 PM throughout the year. On the second Sunday of each
month, we have Women and Healing Workshops after the church service.
These workshops, led by Laura Joseph, create a safe space where women
can talk about issues and concers they encounter in their everyday
lives. See our church calendar for details.
Our Chancel Choir, directed by Kiyomi Kumura, rehearses on Sundays from 9:30 to 10:30 AM and from
12:00
to 1:00 PM in the sanctuary. Our Youth Choir rehearses on Sunday afternoons after
church. Choir does not meet during the summer.
We are involved in our community through such activities as visitation of homebound
people by Rev. Stanley Jenkins (our pastor) and our deacons and administration
of home communion to church members by Rev. Jenkins. In 2003, we began a program called Greens for Queens,
in which vegetables grown on our church lawn are given to local needy residents.
We also participated in the Forward Motion pilot community program to help local
public assistance residents become self-sufficient. |
